Course Description

Appreciating the Music of India is a six-hour, two-day course designed to introduce participants to the rich and diverse music traditions of India. The course is open to all ages; no prior musical experience is required, only an open mind and a willingness to listen and learn. The course will include an overview of music history, a detailed description of raga and tala, and a clear analysis of the structure and format of a musical performance. There will be ample time for listening, singing and discussion. The course will be taught by Srinivas Reddy, a professional sitar player and an experienced scholar of South Asian studies.
